"The Book was Better than the Movie"- The Kite Runner

Five years ago, Khaled Hosseini's "The Kite Runner" -BOOM- came out of nowhere as a debut novel. A very intense novel that quickly shot to the top of the best-seller list around the world. It was on the best-seller list for almost 130 weeks. I bet Khaled Hosseini didn't expect that his book would be such a hit. His novel was predominantly promoted through word of mouth. Five years later, more than 5.5 million paperback copies have been published. This "darling of the book clubs" made Hollywood consider turning it into a movie to draw fans to see it in action.

I went to the movies a couple of weeks ago to watch this "Intense" movie. Humphrey and OogaBooga dipped out early because they had had to sink back to the bottom of Bermuda Triangle. These little monsters needed to go home before the sun sets, otherwise they might never break free. Back to the Kite Runner...So, Just to make it clear, "No I didn't read the book!" In fact, I hate reading & writing. (Unlike my friend humphrey who sends us random emails about what they learnt from reading daily). The interested turtle made it clear that the book is way better than the movie. Too bad... Since I don't like reading... I think I'll never 'really' know. But you know what? One thing I learnt from the movie is that there is power in reading. Its true. Those who do not read feel vulnerable....I (aozobillah min kalimat 'I') always feel vulnerable. I feel like I'm at the mercy of TVs,Radios,Movies,CDs,DVDs, Oral info transmissions...yes, yes and you-->Humphrey. Its sad... When I watched the Kite Runner everyone was saying... The book is way better. Hmmm, I was confused... how can it be better... the movie was fantastic! The interested turtle said "Because the book has more details.... They left out a lot of details in the movie". WELL... maybe some people don't like details. Maybe I like to just get to the point. Maybe I like to see it move, wiggle, and dance... Words dear friends are so boring.. why? because they are still... they are dull usually in shades of black, grey or white... sometimes too small... and the font is usually (90%) of the time Times New Roman size 12. Its BORING! I like real people, real characters.. voices.. noises.. colors... dancing and singing.. lights, camera, Action! In the movie, the Hazra boy, can't read or write (like me)... but he goes to his friend to read to him. Such beautiful scenes. I sometimes feel like the Hazra boy when I want to read a book. I make humphrey read it, then I say " What did the book say?" Then I ask him/her/it if he/she/it benefited from the book. humphrey always says... "I don't know" pause "I don't know"...... I'll wait for him/her/it to read the book to let me know what it's like. I kind of know his/her/its answer ... "I don't know" pause "I don't know".

Oh yea! back to the Kite Runner. One of the most unforgettable, heart wrenching and shocking scenes is when the Hazra boy gets rapped. All for his loyalty and friendship. Such a honorable friend. Such a beautiful soul. Such an innocent boy. Sometimes I think to myself... Such beautiful traits are disappearing in the 21st century. True friendships, true loyalty, true pure "truth". True friendship is becoming harder and harder to find today. Once we were one... today we are scattered all over the world, dressed in blue jeans, same haircut with bangs and all our hearts are covered in a beautiful black sac with random impure stains.

Should we accept "us", or should we proceed with cleaning our hearts. ---I'll use Windex... Humphrey and OogaBooga let me know if you want some of my Windex. It seems to temporarily remove stains from the heart. Windex is for everything *wink*

*Write in the comments below: What is your Windex?*

Get used to my unfocused, annoying, pointless writing :)

You know, there's something quite mysterious about words. more mysterious than any wiggly jiggly dancing entity could offer. they offer the power to imagine and think. otherwise, watching movies and shows, interacting with people - is largely just people telling you what to see and how you should see it. it's when you read that you form your own image, both mentally and visually. Granted, the words are also written in a way so as to elicit certain reactions from you, but ultimately, its up to you to create the "sound affects" the "colors" and emotions that follow.

But beyond that, how can I explain to you what it is that makes reading so incomprehensibly exquisite! Yes, it can be thoroughly dry, draining and can cause such anguish at times! Other times, it offers much needed relief. When i read books related to the deen, especially sufism, I often come to a point where I'm literally screaming within: I WANT THIS I WANT THIS. Stop teasing me by only showing me What You Are in books, I want to feel this for real. Does it happen? No. Leaves this bittersweet taste in one's innermost being. But its a hopeful taste - I hope. And you know when reading offers relief? When more often than not, your book answers the very questions or concerns that were (coincidentally.. ?!) just moments ago clouding your soul. . . Essentially, it's a love-hate relationship. And its especially fun to have books around as your Companion when you're not supposed to go to the gym or go to Beautiful Soul's house or do anything soulful. Put simply, you're missing out ;)

My windex hmm hmmm . I think I have oxyclean, windex, orange glo, lysol, very nice sponges and Bounty papertowels.. Definitely have all the equipment and resources to have this MASSIVE 'WINTER CLEANING'.. but I resist. I say to myself, I need more time. I can't clean everything all out at once.

But I think it's mostly because the stains are so deep that it's difficult to detect them since they have comfortably become ingrained and embedded in their surroundings. . .
